Fallen From the Sky

Robin and Patrick rushed to the thrashing patient who had been rolled in by paramedics and Jagger. Robin quickly realized the patient was her father. Robert was yelling about needing to meet up at the rendezvous point. The team of doctors and nurses soon had Robert sedated so they could examine him. At first glance, it appeared Robert's only injuries were a bruised liver and broken arm. Robert was not recognizing his daughter, though. He also seemed to be living in the past.

As Kyle was walking through the halls, he heard a strange whistle. He stopped and saw Robert in a storage closet. Robert pulled him in and started talking about gathering supplies to sneak out. Kyle quickly realized the best way to handle the situation was to play along with Robert's fantasies. Kyle told Robert to go back to his room until the guards changed. Kyle assured Robert he would gather the necessary supplies and meet up with him later.

Jagger also found Robert trying to sneak out of the hospital by trying to gain access to a vent in the ceiling. Jagger pulled Robert off the carts by the vent, though, and the nurses got the man back into his hospital room. Robert talked to Jagger about his little girl, who he thought was only nine years old. Jagger said he could relate, because he had a young son, also. Unknowingly, Robert made Jagger think about the choices he was making for Stone regarding his strange behavior. Robert talked about all the dangers lurking out there for their children. As parents and fathers, they had to protect their children from everything they possibly could protect them from.

When Patrick and Robin came in to check his vitals and speak with him, Robert said Robin reminded him of his ex. He was not willing to go into any other details with the doctors about his personal life, though. Robert got up from bed and collapsed in Robin's arms, while Patrick ran off to get help.

Later, Robin came to speak with her father, who recognized his daughter again. The father and daughter quickly talked about Robin's pregnancy and HIV status. Robin soon gave her father the news that he would need surgery to release the fluid from his brain. Once in surgery, Robin watched from outside the operating room. While she waited, Robin received a visit from Jagger. He apologized for storming off previously. He had seen the strange things his son did but didn't want to admit there might be a problem. Jagger was still there with Robin when Patrick came out of surgery and told her that Robert had a brain tumor.

A pregnant woman came into the emergency room with contractions. Dr. Julian wanted to monitor the young mother's contractions, but her water broke as soon as she rose from the wheelchair. A doctor came in to examine the woman and soon asked to speak with Dr. Julian privately. The woman was not pregnant at all. Dr. Julian was furious, but Saira offered to treat the woman. Through Saira's conversation with the woman, she learned the woman had been forced to have an abortion when she was only fourteen. With the extensive scarring in her uterus, the woman most likely could not become pregnant. The woman's husband soon rushed into the room, excited that the day to meet his son was finally there. Saira did not reveal the woman's secret, though, and asked to examine the man's wife privately. Saira told the woman she had to stop lying to herself and her husband. The abortion had not only given the young woman physical scars but emotional ones, as well.

Later, Saira and Leo argued in the locker room. Leo knew he was pig-headed and closed-minded because he chose to only believe in one method of medicine-science. Leo also felt Saira was closed-minded, though. She acted holier-than-thou and felt her approach to medicine was the only approach. Saira tried to agree with Leo, but he called her out on shutting herself out when things got rough. The two wound up passionately and angrily kissing up against the lockers in the locker room.

Claire and Kyle found an apartment and moved in together. Things were not going as great as they would have hoped, though. Claire was not the neatest roommate and Kyle had expensive taste in furniture. They argued while they tried to treat a girl who was suffering exhaustion and moodiness. When they got the results back, they continued to bicker while they informed the girl she had thyroid problem. With daily medication and routine blood tests, the girl should be fine. The girl mentioned not having insurance and that she would never be able to afford the medicine, let alone the emergency room visit. The girl's roommate, who had been arguing with her the entire time, offered to marry her so she could be added to his insurance. Later, Claire and Kyle make up and compromised on their furniture and living arrangements. They also agreed to marry each other if they were still single when they each turned 40.

Epiphany misunderstood Toussaint when he offered to help out in the hospital past his regular shifts. She embarrassed herself by thinking he was offering something other than work. They ran into each other again in the break room, where Toussaint offered some coffee to the head nurse. Epiphany turned it down and explained she could no longer have caffeine after her heart attack. Toussaint was surprised to learn Epiphany had even had a heart attack, so she explained it had happened in the locker room while she held her son's ashes. Epiphany acknowledged to Toussaint that she became all flustered when she was around him. She wanted to know what was going on. Toussaint said he was looking for something more meaningful than he had in the past. He valued his friendship with Epiphany, though.
