In a moment of drunken weakness, Adam and Chelsea gave in to their feelings and slept together on The Young and the Restless. Then, they were horrified.
It all started when the exes learned their son Connor had harmed himself in the mental health facility they had sent him to. They had just visited Connor and seen how much improvement he'd made, so hearing about this setback devastated them. To help numb their emotional pain, Adam brought a bottle of bourbon to Chelsea's room, which is where one thing led to another, and they ended up in bed.
Too bad Adam and Chelsea are both committed to other people. Adam is finally back together with Sally, and Chelsea is in a relationship with Billy. Their significant others are on their minds after the deed is done, which is why Melissa Claire Egan does not see this encounter as a true "Chadam" reunion.
"There was no intention of doing anything mischievous," Egan told Soap Opera Digest. "Chelsea was just a mess and lost it. They were both in this vulnerable state, and they were the only ones who knew how the other one was feeling at that moment and were really leaning on each other. And when you mixed it up with a lot of booze while in the throes of despair, feelings got really confused, and in soaps, these things happen!"
Adam and Chelsea immediately knew they had to keep their night together a secret. They don't want Sally and Billy to ever know what happened, and Egan completely understands.
"I feel so bad for Adam and Sally because they're so good together and they went through so much this time last year," Egan said. "And I feel so bad for Chelsea and Billy because he saved her life and then she did this to him."
Keeping one-night stands a secret is easier said than done on soaps, but will this remain a one-night stand, or will something more happen?
"This isn't just some random hook-up," Egan explained. "I think the fans are going to be on a very bumpy, fun, exciting ride to see, 'Do [Billy and Sally] find out? How do they find out? When do they find out?' And the guilt and all the layers that come with this mistake."
