While Camila Banus was not the first actress to portray Days of our Lives' Gabi Hernandez, she is the actress most identified with the role. Banus left DAYS and Gabi behind last year when the character went to prison for allegedly killing Li Shin.
After Stefan finally proved his wife's innocence, Gabi was released, but the Gabi we saw had a new face and attitude. Cherie Jimenez now plays the popular character after auditioning for her years ago when she first arrived on the Hollywood scene.
"I actually auditioned for the role of Gabi when it was first created 15 years ago," she told Soaps.com. "It just wasn't meant to be. I was 22. I had just moved to L.A. a couple of years prior at 19 and the audition came into my life."
All these years later, Jimenez is putting her own stamp on Gabi while also enjoying seeing her scenes made into gifs. One such image on X caused her to take pause and comment on her lipstick color, one that matched her bright red dress.
"I have learned that red lipstick and I are not a good match," she tweeted. "With that said, thankfully from here on out we have hopefully found better colors that suit my lips," she noted.

So far, fans have been enthusiastic for Jimenez's arrival and Gabi's return to Salem, something the actress is grateful for.
"Also thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness & acceptance of me stepping into this iconic role," she said. "I know being a recast comes with lots of resistance and judgement. I hope over time as I settle into this role you fall in love with my interpretation of Gabi," she tweeted.

Since Jimenez took over the role, Gabi has already done something unexpected. Rather than only thinking of herself, she thought of Eric when she learned that E.J. wasn't Jude's real father. She remembered how it felt to be kept from her own child for half a year, so she publicly revealed that Eric was the baby's father at a press conference in Horton Town Square. Has Gabi turned over a new, more honest leaf? Time will tell.
