If one reads into the results of this year's The Young and the Restless edition of the Soap Central awards, one might be able to figure out exactly why Y&R has been the top-rated soap opera for so many years. Twelve different performers were awarded Dankies awards this year - a mark that sets a record among all soap balloting. In fact, only one performer earned more than one award this year.

While last year's Dankies were dominated by the "teen" set, this year there was a return to awarding veteran performers. Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott). It was a decisive win for Bergman, who finished third in balloting last year. Last year's winner, David Tom (Billy Abbott) was not nominated in this category this year.
The now-departed Scott Reeves (ex-Ryan McNeil) was named Outstanding Supporting Actor. This marked Reeves first Dankies win. In winning, Reeves toppled the expected favorite in the field, Rick Hearst (ex-Matt Clark). Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) picked up her first Dankie with a win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress field.
Continuing the first-time winner theme, Thad Luckinbill (JT Hellstrom) was named Outstanding Newcomer. In victory, Luckinbill defeated Christopher Douglas (ex-Sean Bridges). Douglas, however, still was named Outstanding Newcomer - for his new role on NBC's Passions.
The first familiar and repeat winner was actress Ashley Bashioum (Mackenzie Browning). Bashioum notched her second consecutive Outstanding Younger Performer win. This was Bashioum's only victory in this year's voting. Last year, the young actress tallied four wins.
The Most Attractive Actor and Most Attractive Actress winners were also repeat winners. Shemar Moore (Malcolm Winters) and Sharon Case (Sharon Newman) both coasted to comfortable wins. These two categories, more than any other Dankies category, seem to be the easiest to establish a dynasty; it's not very often that a performer is ousted as a winner.
She may be returning to Y&R, but Lauralee Bell's (Christine Williams) extended maternity leave allowed her the chance to be named Most Missed Performer.
As mentioned, there was only one performer to earn a multiple win this year. That person was Sabryn Genet (Tricia McNeil). Genet cruised to victory in the Outstanding Lead Actress category. Additionally, Genet pulled off the biggest win on the ballot - Outstanding Overall Performer. No doubt Genet will be back on next year's ballot in the Most Missed Performer category.
