Nathan Purdee has packed a lot of living into a relatively short number of years. Born in Tampa, Florida, he has also lived in Washington, D.C.; Bakersfield, California; Kaiserslautern, Germany; and Denver, Colorado-and that's just through high school! Awarded an academic scholarship to Lindfield College in Oregon, Nathan majored in criminology and minored in theater there before earning a degree in mental health from Denver's Metropolitan State College. Though he has spent time in several professions along the way, he now concentrates on just two of them: Acting and painting.
As maverick district attorney Hank Gannon on One Life to Live, his professional career often causes conflict in his private life with his daughter, Rachel, his ex-wife, Nora, and especially his brother, R.J. But Nathan is also well-known to daytime television audiences for his long-running role as Nathan Hastings on The Young and the Restless. Nathan turned that role, originally intended as a two-day stint, into a six-year job.
Following Nathan's departure from The Young and the Restless, he joined Santa Barbara in February 1989, for a short-term role. Shortly thereafter, he spent his summer vacation starring in his first feature film, playing the lead role in The Return of Superfly. The film, which was shot on location in Stamford, CN; New York City; and Paris, afforded Nathan another opportunity: Upon his return from Europe, he sold his first painting to a Parisian art collector.
