From one of the show's hospital sets, executive producer Frank Valentini accepted the award.

"We're blessed with amazing writers, talented directors, an extraordinary cast, and a tireless, hilarious crew. I share this award with my fellow producers. Thanks to our fans, we appreciate you."
General Hospital once again selected divergent episodes for its Emmy submissions. The ABC soap no longer selects consecutive episodes that focus on telling a centralized story or stories. Instead, GH chose to highlight one of the year's most powerful storylines as well as some of its nonlinear storytelling.
In its first episode, General Hospital selected an episode that aired in November 2020 and commemorated the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gave women the right to vote. The special stand-alone episode featured an all-female cast and it was written and directed by women.
For its second episode, General Hospital selected an emotion-filled episode in which loved ones said goodbye to Mike Corbin. The beloved Corinthos patriarch had succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease. The celebration of life service ended with a distraught Sonny getting a spiritual visit from his dad, who told his son that he loved him. Interestingly, The Young and the Restless also featured a storyline with a beloved character succumbing to Alzheimer's -- a storyline that won the show's writers an Emmy -- but the CBS soap did not select anything from that storyline in its Drama Series submissions.
General Hospital added to its record number of Outstanding Drama Series wins. The ABC soap now has 14 trophies in the category. Its first win came back in 1981. The show has won seven times since 2005.
