It's been more than two years since Paolo Seganti (Damian Grimaldi) last appeared on As the World Turns, but Soap Central has confirmed that the actor will be back on the CBS soap in 2009.
Seganti originated the role of Damian in 1993 and has a history of coming and going. During his first stint with As the World Turns, Seganti exited after just three years. He's returned for guest appearances of varying lengths in 1997, 2001, and 2006.
When Seganti last appeared on As the World Turns, Damian was busy trying to "deprogram" Luke from being gay. Damian's plot failed -- along with an attempt to get Luke to hand over a large sum of cash -- and Luke ultimately disowned his father.
"The powers that be think bringing [Seganti] back will help boost the show's ratings," a show insider remarks.
Since leaving As the World Turns, the Italian-born actor has appeared in two films and a handful of primetime television projects.
An exact first airdate for Seganti has yet to be determined, but it is expected to come sometime in March. His story is expected to have Damian cross paths with Lily, Lucinda, and, of course, his son, Luke.
Seganti's first airdate is March 25.
