Hunky All My Children alum Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo Santos) has just landed a pretty juicy role on Netflix's mystery drama series Riverdale. But could the role be taken away from him before you ever get to see him?
The former daytime star has signed on to play Veronica's as-yet-unseen father, Hiram Lodge, on the upcoming second season of the popular series. As it stand now, Veronica and her mother are estranged from Hiram, who's been serving time in jail for an embezzlement scheme.
States an official show teaser: "[Hiram] is a ruthless, handsome, charismatic businessman who is coming back to Riverdale after weathering a financial scandal that almost destroyed him. He is there to reconnect with his wife Hermione and, especially, his daughter Veronica, who is the apple of his eye."
Landing the series regular role is quite a score for Consuelos, but there's a chance he actually won't even get to step into Hiram's shoes. According to TV Line, the actor's Riverdale deal is contingent upon the future of his FOX baseball series Pitch, which is currently being considered for a second-season renewal. Should Pitch be picked up for another season, Consuelos would have to drop out of Riverdale.
No matter how it plays out, it seems the actor will have just as much of a hectic schedule as his real-life wife, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley Santos); Consuelos has also signed on for a juicy arc on NBC's The Night Shift (see link above).
What do you think about Consuelos landing a role on Riverdale? Would you rather see him play Veronica's dad, or would you rather his FOX series, Pitch, be picked up for another season?
