Viewers of The Young and the Restless saw Faith Newman go through the wringer last year with bullying, drinking issues, and her mom almost dying of cancer. While it was heartbreaking to watch the sweet young Genoa City resident go through such turmoil, it was a serious treat to watch the character's then-portrayer, Alyvia Alyn Lind, bring all of Faith's emotional moments to life. The actress' peers thought so, too, and she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Younger Performer category for her impressive work over the course of last year.
Soap Central caught up with Lind, who is now working on the Child's Play reboot series Chucky, to get her thoughts on her nomination, what it was like playing such intense scenes, and how she plans to celebrate her very exciting Daytime Emmy news.
Soap Central: Congratulations on your Emmy nomination, Aly! How does it feel to be nominated?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: It feels so amazing to be acknowledged for something you love to do. It's icing on a really delicious chocolate cake!
Soap Central: What were you doing when you found out that you'd been nominated, and how did you react?
Lind: I found out about the nomination when I was at work. I'm on another show right now, and there were celebrations, high-fives. It was so nice to feel the support of everybody I was working with.
Soap Central: Who did you share the news with first, and how did they react?
LInd: I immediately texted my sisters when my mom and I heard the news. There's this feeling of "We're all in this together" with my family, so they were just excited as I was. A victory for one of us is a victory for the other. Then they announced it over the intercom on set -- so, it was a day of celebrating!
Soap Central: What scenes did you submit for your reel, and how did you choose them?
LInd: Faith had a big year, thanks to Y&R's amazing writers. So, I selected the scenes that depicted the issues Faith had to overcome: bullying, underage drinking and driving, and her mom fighting cancer. All of her struggles are so true to life, and I feel fortunate to be able to portray a teenager who is put in a position to have to battle her own demons.
Soap Central: Do you remember how you got in the mood for those scenes or prepared?
Lind: I've been working with Josh [Morrow, Nick Newman], Sharon [Case, Sharon Newman], Cammy [Grimes, Mariah Copeland], Melody [Thomas Scott, Nikki Newman], and Eric [Braeden, Victor Newman] since I was three. I feel like we all have a rhythm of getting into emotional scenes. We're all on the same page, we're there for each other and really trust each other.
Soap Central: How much influence did your scene partners have on your performance in your chosen scenes?
Lind: My scene partners are everything in this show! My mom always told me that you can't have a good game of tennis unless both players are good. And I am so lucky to be working with some of the best actors on television.
Soap Central: Will you do anything to celebrate your nomination?
Lind: My cast and crew want to have an Emmy party! I've already chosen my dress, and I want to have Zooms going with my Y&R family and my actual family!
Soap Central: Is there anything else you'd like to add -- a message to your fans, how it's going at your new job? Anything!
Lind: I am so lucky to be doing what I love to do. And I'm even luckier to be a part of this iconic show, The Young and the Restless. It has been such a huge part of my life, and every single piece of it will always live in my heart.
