Jordi Vilasuso has spent the better part of his career on soap operas, playing a mix of characters like Guiding Light's Tony Santos, All My Children's Griffin Castillo, Days of our Lives' Dario Hernandez, and now, The Young and the Restless' Rey Rosales. His wealth of experience has made him an expert at ensemble acting, and now he's proving he can carry a feature film, as well.
The actor plays the lead role in the new movie Clyde Cooper, available now for streaming. The film, which also stars DAYS alum Abigail Titmuss (ex-Nurse Jackie), follows Vilasuso as the title character, a private investigator who is hired to track down a missing girl on the run from a mysterious Silicon Valley corporation.
"Playing Clyde Cooper was a little bit of a character study for me," Vilasuso revealed to Digital Journal. "I had to flex a different acting muscle, and Peter [Daskaloff, director] was very particular."
Despite the intense character study -- or perhaps even because of it -- the actor says the overall experience of filming Clyde Cooper was a lot of fun.
"We didn't take ourselves too seriously. [Director Peter Daskaloff] had a vision, and I met with him, and I loved what they were doing," he says. "Peter is a really interesting director, and I give him a lot of credit. We had a really good time shooting it."
As for how Vilasuso has settled in at Y&R, the actor says the experience so far has been fantastic.
"It has been such a treat to work on such a landmark show on television with an incredible group of talented and creative people," he says. "It has been such a blessing and a joy to go to work. It truly has."
