The Young and the Restless fans were crushed when Kelly Sullivan's time as Sage Warner came to an end last year, so they are thrilled to hear the soap opera alum, who has since gone on to become a star in TLC's Too Close To Home, snagged a Daytime Emmy nomination for her emotional Genoa City work. And the actress herself is also over the moon about receiving the honor.
"I feel proud, honored, and really excited to see all my friends on April 30th!" she tells Soap Central of the exciting news. "I loved my being a part of Y&R, and I think the writers did an outstanding job with Sage's storylines, down to her very last scene."
Funny enough, Sullivan was out running errands when she found out she'd been nominated, and the first person she told was quite a peculiar choice.
"I was at my mechanic's shop, picking up my car, and when I looked down at my phone, I saw two texts. One was from Matt Kane, head of PR, and the other was from Jimmy Freeman, associate producer -- by the way, to hear it from them first was perfect because they are two of my favorite people," she says. "When I read the texts, I blurted out, 'Oh my god!' And so, I guess the first person to hear about it was my mechanic."
Luckily, the actress was able to celebrate with her boyfriend later that evening. But the couple kept the excitement pretty low-key.
"I made dinner, and [we] watched The Fall," she shares. "We are obsessed with that show!"
However, something tells us no matter how much Sullivan loves The Fall, it doesn't compare to how much Y&R fans loved the actress' Emmy-nominated scenes. After all, they were quite spectacular and played an important role in one of the show's biggest storylines of 2016.
"I submitted one of the last episodes I filmed, where Sage confronts Sharon [Sharon Case] in her living room," Sullivan says. "When I got the script for that particular episode, I was scared of those scenes. I wanted to give them the performance they deserved, and I felt a big responsibility to the story, to the writers, and the audience. I was really happy with how they turned out; I really love those scenes."
