MTV has picked up a new drama co-starring Cynthia Watros (Kelly Andrews). The series, Finding Carter, centers around a teenage girl named Carter who must return to live with her birth parents after she discovers the woman she's known as her mother abducted her as a toddler. The title role will be played by Kathryn Prescott, best known for her role as Emily Fitch in the UK drama Skins. Watros will play Carter's birth mother.
The drama at the center of Finding Carter should be nothing new for Watros. The actress is perhaps most well-known for her primetime role as Libby in Lost. She also has a long history on soaps. But her new job may require something new for The Young and the Restles -- a new Kelly.
The top-rated CBS soap has issued a casting call for "Molly," a character that sounds awfully similar to Watros' role. The role is described as "a blonde in the mid-30s to 40 age range [who] has been down a difficult path in life, but is beginning to live again."
Watros began the recurring role of Y&R's Kelly Andrews back in November of 2013. Kelly had an affair with Billy Abbott after the two met in a grief support group. Kelly had lost her son, Sam, in a car accident, and Billy and his wife, Victoria Newman, were grieving the loss of their daughter, Delia. Billy turned to Kelly when he had trouble talking to Victoria about his grief.
Watros also played the villainous Annie Dutton on Guiding Light from 1994 to 1998, a role for which she won a Daytime Emmy. She even briefly took over the role of Victoria Hudson on Another World when actress Jensen Buchanan was on maternity leave in 1998.
MTV has picked up Finding Carter for an initial run of 12 episodes. In addition to Watros and Prescott, the show will star Milena Govich, Alexis Denisof, and Anna Jacoby-Heron.
