Which soap opera had the best sets in 2021? Normally that question is answered at the Daytime Emmy Awards, but with The Young and the Restless being the only daytime drama nominated in the Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design category this year, there was a chance we might not have received a definitive answer!
Luckily, the Set Decorators Society of America Awards has recognized every daytime drama and Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem in its Best Achievement in Decor/Design for a Daytime Drama category for the 2021/2022 television season, giving all the series a fair shot to take home the gold for set design.
The soaps join many other prestigious television series in the competition, such as Ozark, Severance, Succession, The White Lotus, and Yellowstone, which are competing in the One Hour Contemporary Series category; and American Horror Stories, The Handmaid's Tale, Loki, Stranger Things, and Star Trek: Picard, who are competing in the One Hour Fantasy or Science Fiction Series category.
Meanwhile, the Music Video/Short Form category is packed with heavy hitters like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Coldplay featuring BTS.
Check out the official nominations presentation video below (the daytime drama category begins at the 4:22 mark), with winners to be announced in a ceremony on August 2, 2022, on the SET DECOR YouTube page.
A nonprofit founded in 1993, the SDSA promotes the highest standards of excellence in the set decoration field worldwide, as well as entertains, inspires, teaches, and preserves the legacy of set decoration in motion pictures and television.
