Congratulations are in order for Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. The three soap operas will be competing in the Daytime Drama category at the upcoming 72nd annual Writers Guild Awards. Sadly, The Bold and the Beautiful did not receive a WGA nomination, making it the only soap opera to be snubbed this year.
The WGA nominations are based on votes cast by 15,000 WGA members, with this year's nominations pertaining to shows that fell within the 2019 calendar year.
DAYS' nominees include head writer Ron Carlivati with Lorraine Broderick, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Rick Draughon, Dave Kreizman, Rebecca McCarty, Ryan Quan, Dave Ryan, Betsy Snyder, and Katie Schock.
GH nominees include head writers Shelly Altman and Christopher Van Etten with associate head writers Anna T. Cascio and Dan O'Connor, as well as Barbara Bloom, Suzanne Flynn, Charlotte Gibson, Lucky Gold, Kate Hall, Elizabeth Korte, Donny Sheldon, and Scott Sickles.
Y&R nominees include Amanda L. Beall, Jeff Beldner, Sara Bibel, Matt Clifford, Annie Compton, Christopher Dunn, Sara Endsley, Janice Ferri Esser, Mellinda Hensley, Lynn Martin, Anne Schoettle, Natalie Minardi Slater, and Teresa Zimmerman.
The 72nd annual WGA Awards will take place Saturday, February 1. On that date, awards will be handed out in coinciding ceremonies in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton and in New York at the Edison Ballroom. For a full list of 2020 WGA nominees, click here.
As Soap Central previously reported, ABC's General Hospital has taken home the WGA award the last five years in a row.
