Angelica McDaniel is out as head of CBS Daytime. Her exit is the result of restructuring at CBS. It is just one of many anticipated changes now that CBS has merged with Viacom.
"Angelica McDaniel championed our daytime series line up with creativity, passion, and energy and broke new ground by helping launch the Network's first daytime talk show in years while respecting the long history and tradition of the dramas and game shows," Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment, said in a statement provided to Soap Central. "We appreciate her many contributions and wish her well on her next endeavors."
McDaniel's position has been phased out, and her last day on the job was reportedly today, according to Deadline, which was first to report on McDaniel's exit.
The daytime lineup will now be overseen by the Current Programming department, which is headed by Amy Reisenbach.
It is unclear what impact -- if any -- the change might have on CBS's two soaps, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. It should, however, be noted that CBS is not the first network to streamline its executive oversight. Over at ABC, Vicki Dummer is in charge of all scripted series, daytime and primetime.
McDaniel joined CBS in August 2010 as Vice President of Daytime Programming. During her tenure at the network, the CBS Daytime lineup -- which includes Let's Make A Deal, The Price is Right, and The Talk, in addition to Y&R and B&B -- continued its record-shattering run as the #1 daytime lineup. The network's winning streak is now at 32 consecutive years.
McDaniel was a champion of the daytime genre and was instrumental in creating synergy across CBS's daytime lineup. Under McDaniel The Talk launched, and the talk show later became the de facto outlet for all things Daytime Emmy. The nominations are announced each year on the chatfest, and the show hosts a day after roundup with all of the soap winners regardless of the network on which their show is broadcast.
