For 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has shared the daytime hours with cheaters, murderers, and celebrities -- and we're not talking about her guests. Now, the Queen of Daytime Talk Shows will pay homage to the soaps in an hour-long, soap opera tribute that encompasses everything from the wedding of super couple Luke and Laura to Erica Kane and her many husbands -- all eight of them.
As a part of her farewell season, Oprah will bring together icons like Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor, The Young and the Restless), Michael E. Knight (Tad Martin, All My Children), and Darnell Williams and Debbi Morgan (Jesse and Angie Hubbard, AMC) for a legendary soap star spectacular. The stars will dish about on-air dramas and reminisce over retired soaps like As the World Turns, Guiding Light, Passions, and Port Charles. Actors Anthony Geary and Genie Francis (Luke and Laura Spencer, General Hospital) will reunite as Luke and Laura for the first time since 2008.
Susan Lucci (Erica Kane, AMC) will give fans a private tour of her New York estate, and Oprah will bring Erica Kane face-to-face with her past husbands. This won't be the first time that Oprah has thrown Erica together in a room with her exes, though. In February 1991, Oprah devoted an entire hour to Erica and the men she'd loved before. In 1990, Oprah also entertained fans by inviting All My Children cast members to celebrate the soap's 20th anniversary.
Oprah viewers and soap fans had the chance to win guest tickets to the 2011 soap opera tribute event by submitting essays to the talk show's website about their love of daytime dramas.
Oprah's soap star spectacular airs Wednesday, February 9. Check your local listings for the time and channel in your area.
