In an effort to streamline their different television properties, the Disney-ABC Television Group has named Brian Frons the president of the newly-created Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group. The promotion elevates Frons from his position as head of ABC Daytime, a position he has served in for the past three-and-a-half years.
"The Disney-ABC Television Group was created to allow for efficiencies across all our businesses," explained Anne Sweeney, the co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney-ABC Television Group. "This new structure achieves this by giving us one strategic vision for all our daytime oriented programming, regardless of where it airs. And Brian Frons is the perfect executive for this new venture. He's intelligent, collaborative, creative and honorable, and has a penchant for approaching challenges with an eye towards what's next, not what's worked in the past."
In his capacity as president of ABC Daytime, Frons was responsible for the development, marketing, production and promotion off all ABC Daytime properties, which include three soaps - All My Children, General Hospital and One Life to Live - and a talk show, The View. Frons was named from president of ABC Daytime in August 2002.
In his new position, Frons takes on the additional duties of overseeing the all-soaps cable network, SOAPnet, and Buena Vista Productions, a production company with programs ranging from Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Ebert & Roeper.
Before being named president of ABC Daytime, Frons served as senior vice president for the London-based SBS Broadcasting, S.A. Earlier in his career he was president, Creative Affairs, for New World Entertainment in Hollywood, where he directed program development and production for network, first-run syndication and international co-production. Frons has also been vice president, Creative Affairs, for NBC Productions.
In the world of daytime Frons has held various executive positions, including vice president of Daytime Programming, for NBC Entertainment, and director, Daytime Programming, for CBS Entertainment.
