Some sad news to pass along to fans of General Hospital's spinoff Port Charles and Beverly Hills, 90210. David Gail has passed away. He was 58.
The actor's sister Katie Colmenares shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram when she posted a touching photo of the siblings sharing an affectionate hug along with a caption that read, "There's barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side always my wingman always my best friend ready to face anything and anyone w me the bears will never be the same but I will hold you so tight every day in my heart you gorgeous loving amazing fierce human being missing you every second of every day forever there will never be another 💔💖"
A native of Tampa, Florida, Gail began his television career by appearing on popular primetime shows like Growing Pains, Murder She Wrote, Matlock and Doogie Howser, MD, in the early 1990s. However, his breakout role was on Beverly Hills, 90210, when he was cast opposite Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh's fiancé Stuart Carson. From there, he moved to daytime in 1999 when he was cast as Dr. Joe Scanlon on ABC's Port Charles, replacing Michael Dietz. He exited the role in 2000.
Gail's movie credits include, Some Girl, Bending All the Rules, The Belly of the Beast, and Perfect Opposites.
Friends and co-stars were quick to share their condolences to Colmenares' post. Kristin Dattilo posted, "I am so sorry to see this. I worked with your brother on a movie Some Girl. He and I played love interests and he was such a sweet soul. My heart is heavy. 🙏🏼💔"
Director and producer Peter Ferriero wrote, "David was a kind human. Someone I wish I spoke to more. He was filled of life and incredible stories. I am grateful I got to know. I am so saddened for your loss, and the world's loss. He was a gift to us all."
Julie McCullough posted, "Wow @colmenareskatie sorry to hear this news about David. He & I starred together on the tv series Robins Hoods for 24 episodes. He played my boyfriend for the last half of the season. Him & his best friend & me & my brother all lived at the same hotel when we had to relocate to Vancouver till we got our own places. Seems like yesterday we were very happy & working doing what we love. I'm shocked to hear of his passing, he & I are the same age. Sending you & your family & his friends hugs! 🙌🙏❤️🩹 Julie"
On Twitter, actor Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin, GH) posted, "RIP to my old pal David Gail. He was fun to be around, we went to the Bahamas diving, he was a good guy !"
