Tonja Walker is headed back to daytime television. The Emmy-nominated actress will reprise her role as Alex Olanov on One Life to Live later this year.
"Yes it is true! I have been asked back to One Life to Live for one day or one week! Who knows? Who cares?!" Walker announced via Facebook. "I am just thrilled and grateful. But now I have to get ready to go back in front of the camera again... I am thinking of starting to video tape that journey tomorrow."
In an interview on Soap Central Live last year, Walker said that she'd welcome a return to Llanview, but said that she'd want the writers to be true to her character.
"I would love to go back to One Life to Live, [but] I would want Alex to be Alex," Walker stated. "The last few times they brought Alex on -- except for the Tuc Watkins time, which they actually wrote really, really well, -- they didn't have her be as intelligent as she was. They didn't have her be really who she really was. They brought me in and had me play her as a gold-digger. As if that's all she was. And the one thing about Alex, is that she was smarter than anybody in the room, all the time."
Walker noticed some similarities between herself and OLTL newcomer, Terri Conn (Aubrey Wentworth), prompting her to remark, "This Aubrey looks a little like me. Hmm..."
The comment, of course, has caused fans to wonder if there might be some yet-unaddressed connection between Alex and Aubrey.
A former Miss Maryland USA, Walker started her career in daytime as Lizbeth Bachman on Capitol. She has also appeared on General Hospital, Guiding Light, and Passions. She originated the role of OLTL's Alex in 1990, and remained with the ABC soap for seven years. After leaving, she's made several return appearances in 2001,2002, 2007, 2009. Her work on One Life to Live earned her an Outstanding Supporting Actress nomination at the 1993 Daytime Emmys.
Walker is slated to appear in just two episodes for now, bu the actress is hopeful that the number could increase. She'll tape her first scenes on or about February 13.
