Despite what you may have read elsewhere,
Tika Sumpter (
Layla Williamson) hasn't been fired from One Life to Live. The actress remains on contract with the ABC soap -- just as she has been since July 2005.
The rumors of Sumpter's impending exit first surfaced last month when published reports stated that the actress had been dropped to recurring status. A few days later, the report was augmented to say that One Life to Live hadn't dumped Sumpter, but rather Sumpter asked to be taken off contract.
Though the stories turned out not to be true, there is certainly ample reason that some may have thought that Sumpter might not be long for daytime. Sumpter is currently involved in two feature film projects. The first,
Whisper Me A Lullaby, is in post-production. Sumpter's other movie,
Stomp The Yard 2: Homecoming, is a sequel to the 2007 box office hit. Sumpter will play Nikki, a role that is featured prominently in the film.
Stomp began filming in November, but a release date has not yet been announced.
