Soap operas are known for their dramatic cliffhangers, but sometimes real life can be even more surprising.
General Hospital's Kirsten Storms (Maxie Jones) and Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny Zacchara) have dropped not one, but two bombshells of their own. Not only did the real-life couple quietly tie the knot in June, but the pair is now expecting their first child -- a girl -- in January.
In something seemingly ripped from the pages of a soap opera script, the pair told People that they did not believe that they'd be able to have children. The 29-year-old Storms has battled endometriosis, a medical condition where cells from the lining of the uterus appear outside the uterine cavity and can cause infertility. However, both were pleasantly surprised when Storms learned that she was pregnant.
"It was pretty bleak as far as the probability of her being able to get pregnant," Barash told the magazine, adding that Storms had been in and out of the hospital during her first trimester of pregnancy.
Barash believes that they conceived the child during a visit to Amsterdam, where they stayed in the guest room of Anthony Geary's (Luke Spencer) home.
"[G]iven that Maxie is in labor on screen, no, we will not be writing it in," GH head writer Ron Carlivati told Soap Opera Digest with a laugh.
