Soap veteran
Robin Mattson (ex-Heather Webber, GH) will join the cast of As the World Turns next month. The short-term stint in Oakdale will mark a return to daytime television for the Emmy-nominated actress. Mattson will appear in the newly-created role of Cheri, who is described by a showsperson as "a woman who gives Emily a run for her money."

When
Kiko Ellsworth assumes the role of General Hospital's Stan Johnson in a few weeks, it will mark a homecoming, of sorts, for the actor. From 2000 to 2003 Ellsworth appeared in Port Charles on GH's sister-soap, Port Charles.

In December, Soap Central reported on a hush-hush plot that General Hospital was devising for its February Sweeps storyline. The storyline was to feature a "new storytelling technique" that would be a first in daytime television. Well, soap fans, FebruarySweeps starts next week -- and on GH, Sweeps will get off to an explosive start.

This summer, General Hospital is about to go where few daytime soaps have gone before - primetime. In an announcement made today, SOAPnet, the Disney-owned cable channel, revealed that it will air a limited-run GH spinoff in primetime later this year.

Vanessa Marcil (ex-
Brenda Barrett) will soon be returning to General Hospital have grown louder in recent weeks. However, the rumors are nothing new: Internet chatter has claimed that the Emmy-winning actress would be "returning" to the ABC soap ever since she exited the show in 2007

In an announcement that the actor labels as either "unexpected" or "no surprise," depending upon your interest level in soaps, Ted King (
Lorenzo Alcazar) has announced that he will be exiting General Hospital later this year. While the departure has been rumored for several weeks, King seized the opportunity to also dispel some rumors.

The cast of the much anticipated General Hospital primetime spinoff,
General Hospital: Night Shift, has now been announced. As expected, the cast will feature some of General Hospital's most popular younger stars - but there are also some new faces amongst the cast as well.

Billy Warlock is once again headed back to give soaps another shot. But this time around Warlock is doing something that he hasn't done in nearly 21 years: he is getting ready to head into uncharted waters.

Three-time Daytime Emmy nominee
Scott Clifton (
Dillon Quartermaine) will exit General Hospital. The actor has opted not to renew his contract with the ABC soap. Exactly when he is leaving, however, is very much in question.

Two-time Emmy winner Rick Hearst will be missing in action from General Hospital for an undisclosed period of time. The actor, who is again nominated for an Emmy this year, underwent throat surgery. A rep for Hearst says he is making a speedy recovery.

Ask anyone the names of the most popular couple in daytime television history and nine-out-of-ten times the response will be "Luke and Laura." So it may be surprising that Genie Francis (Laura Spencer) had only been nominated for a Daytime Emmy once previously.

Natalia Livingston (
Emily Quartermaine) has put to rest the revolving door rumors about her future with General Hospital. The actress, who was reported as having been fired from the ABC soap by some media outlets, reveals that she has inked a new contract and will be sticking around Port Charles for the foreseeable future.

Annie Wersching is out as General Hospital's Amelia. The actress has landed a starring role on the FOX series 24. There's no word on how GH will handle the actress' exit.

Rumors are circulating that several GH stars will be exiting the show in the upcoming weeks. The honor for the most talked about potential exit, however, belongs to

Samantha McCall). The actress joined GH in 2003 after a three-year run on the GH spinoff, Port Charles.

Kirsten Storms (ex-
Belle Black) is the latest celebrity to be arrested on DUI charges in Los Angeles. While Storms may not have the same clout as some recently arrested celebs, the actress spent some time in jail and was ordered to pay a hefty fine. Storms joined General Hospital in 2005.

Former General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful star
Sean Kanan is due on court later this month to faces charges for an August arrest on suspicion of DUI. Kanan is the second soap star to face these charges. GH's Kirsten Storms (Maxie) was arrested earlier this month after failing a breathalyzer test.

An Emmy winner, a former Port Charles star and a mystery character with no last name are all headed to General Hospital next month. The show has cast three recurring roles, all of which are expected to have at least some impact during the November Sweeps period.

Lindze Letherman's
Georgie will be the next victim of the mass murder skulking about Port Charles. The actress will exit GH in December allowing her on-screen mom, popular GH vet Kristina Wagner, to make a brief return.

Sarah J. Brown is headed back to daytime television -- but she will not be appearing as her best known role, General Hospital's Carly. Brown will play Claudia Zacchara, a new character for the ABC soap. The actress appeared most recently on CBS's As the World Turns.
