Days of our Lives' Craig Wesley is set to leave town this week, bringing portrayer Kevin Spirtas' most recent run on the NBC soap opera to a close.
Spirtas reprised the role of Craig in January of this year for an unprecedented DAYS storyline in which the character came out to his longtime wife, Nancy (Patrika Darbo), and admitted that he had been dating schemer Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart). Later, at Craig and Leo's wedding, it was revealed that Leo was actually married to drag queen Jackie Cox, with whom he had partnered to take Craig's money.
On Wednesday, May 4, Leo will plead for another chance with Craig, and he will try to convince the doctor that he truly did fall in love with him, despite his early machinations. But will Craig accept Leo's apology? In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, Greg Rikaart previews what's ahead for the couple.
"We've seen this side of Leo before he and Craig have this heart-to-heart; we saw it at the wedding when he got to be pretty vulnerable with Craig after things went awry," the actor shares. "In this moment, we do see him a bit vulnerable, again, and the honest side of Leo that he keeps hidden is a big step for Leo."
Despite the fact that Leo's feelings for Craig are genuine, Craig will ultimately decide to say goodbye to Leo and leave Salem.
"It's amicable ... in the moment," Rikaart teases of the pair's breakup. "Leo feels dejected and is disappointed, then it's full steam ahead to get back at everyone who Leo feels is responsible [for trying to derail his and Craig's wedding]!"
Spirtas originally took on the role of DAYS' Kevin in 1997. Prior to this run, the actor last appeared in Salem in 2009, when Craig's daughter Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) fell into a coma after being poisoned by Kate (Lauren Koslow). He also reprised the role for the soap's Last Blast Reunion digital series on the DOOL App back in 2019.
Some of Spirtas' other credits include After Forever, Winterthorne, Hustling, Valley of the Dolls, and Rituals. He also played One Life to Live character Jonas Chamberlain in 2008.
