Steve Burton has been tapped to appear in the second season of the streaming series Beyond Salem. While it's unclear who the two-time Emmy winner will be playing, it will not be the first time that the actor has appeared in the Days of our Lives universe.
In 1988, Burton made his daytime debut as Harris Michaels. In a recent Soap Digest podcast, Burton called the role his "introduction to daytime.”
“[I] was supposed to do, I think it was like 10 episodes of DAYS and it turned into a lot more…. Being on DAYS was just a new experience for me. It was really exciting. It was over at Sunset Gower, which I had auditioned [at] hundreds of times. That was a time when, I don’t want to say the heyday of soaps [but] I feel the late ’80s and early ’90s-to-mid-’90s was a good time for soap operas. Stephen Nichols [Steve] was there and Mary Beth [Evans, Kayla] and Billy Warlock [ex-Frankie]. I mean, it was all those guys. My first real introduction to soap operas was Days of our Lives. It was cool. Everybody was nice. It was fun. It wasn’t easy. And I still couldn’t act!”
Burton's most recent daytime role as General Hospital's Jason Morgan ended abruptly in November 2021 when he was let go from the ABC soap for not complying with the show's vaccine policy. "I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied, which you know hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me, I don't think anybody should lose their livelihood over this," Burton said at the time.
Burton's character was presumed dead after he was trapped under tons of rubble in a collapsed underground cavern. Burton had played Jason off-and-on since 1990.
In addition to DAYS and GH, Burton also enjoyed a four-year run on The Young and the Restless as Dylan McAvoy.
Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem (Chapter 2) is set to drop on Peacock on July 11 and run through July 15. The second installment of the streaming series will focus on Hope and Bo Brady. And yes... Bo supposedly died in November 2015.
