Patrika Darbo's recent homecoming as Days of our Lives Nancy Wesley has been an interesting one, with her quirky character revealing that she thinks her longtime husband, Craig (Kevin Spirtas), is having an affair.
Official show teasers reveal that Craig will be arriving in Salem on Friday, January 21, to set the record straight -- but it doesn't sound like he'll be offering up a simple "I am" or "I'm not" declaration about his suspected cheating.
According to Darbo, who recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about her return, DAYS head writer Ron Carlivati has "created a storyline that is unprecedented and is going to be fabulous." She teases that the remarkable material ahead "may upset a few people, and it may not," adding, "It will be an adventure."
Darbo also reveals that she was flattered to be asked back to the role she originated in 1998, especially when she found out what Carlivati had planned for her and Spirtas.
"I thought I was coming on for a couple little scenes. I didn't realize how big the storyline was -- and what it was," she enthuses, joking that her initial response was, "'Holy crap!"
Unfortunately, Darbo confirms that she is not on contract at the NBC soap, but she reports that there is a silver lining to that.
"Anytime an actor can say, 'I'm a working actor,' is a very good thing, and because I'm not under contract, it leaves me open to do other things" she says. "To be blessed enough to have the fans still want me and to have the show still want me, I am one happy camper. I truly feel blessed about that and have great gratitude to the show."
