The sands will continue flowing through that iconic hourglass for at least another two years.
A deal has finally been reached between Corday Productions, NBC, and Sony Pictures Television that will see life continue in Salem, USA, through at least 2023. The NBC soap was forced to halt production last month because contract talks came down to the wire. Production resumed last week, according to TVLine.
"We couldn't be happier to bring our loyal fans two more seasons of Days of our Lives and continue what has been an absolutely remarkable achievement in television," NBC EVP Michael Sluchan said in a statement. "A big thank you to [executive producer] Ken Corday and the cast and crew for their incredible passion for storytelling that continues to reach new generations of viewers."
"After more than 55 years of bringing drama, adventure, and romance to screens around the world, we are thrilled and honored to carry on the Days of our Lives legacy for another two years," Corday added.
Last year, Days of our Lives was forced to do some extreme belt-tightening to keep its costs in check and remain on the air. The NBC soap took the dramatic step of releasing all of its talent from their contracts.
Days of our Lives premiered November 8, 1965 and aired its 14,000th episode in December 2020. The show has garnered 58 Daytime Emmy Awards, including the 2018 Outstanding Daytime Drama trophy. The show has tallied 372 Daytime Emmy nominations in total. DAYS remains one of the most-watched programs on NBC's streaming platform and the longest-running series on NBC.
Elsewhere in daytime, CBS has already renewed The Young and the Restless through at least 2023-2024, while The Bold and the Beautiful will remain on the air through at least the 2021-2022 season. ABC does not make announcements regarding the renewal of General Hospital.
