Fans are sending more thoughts and prayers to Days of our Lives Judi Evans (Adrienne Kiriakis), whose stay in the hospital following a horse riding accident has gone from bad to worse. As Soap Central previously reported, Evans sustained seven broken ribs, a broken collarbone, two chipped vertebrae, and a collapsed lung from blunt force trauma following a riding accident in mid-May. Less than two weeks later, the actress' rep reported that doctors discovered Evans had developed a potentially life-threatening blood clot in one of her lungs. Now, her rep reports that the actress has been diagnosed with coronavirus and that the infection has caused further health complications.
"[Judi] contracted COVID-19 while [in the hospital] and she had what is known as the COVID blood clots in her legs, and she nearly had both legs amputated on two different occasions," reports her publicist, Howie Simon. "She had mild symptoms -- fever, aches, a cough and the blood clots."
Simon also shares that a serious error has made the ordeal even more painful for the actress. "On top of everything, when she went into surgery on one of her legs, they forgot to numb the leg and cut into her leg while she was fully conscious with no numbing of the area!"
Fortunately, not all of Simon's news has been bad. He spoke with Evans on Sunday and reports that she was "in good spirits and back to Judi 'humor,' despite all these spiraling turn of events." He also shares that the actress "appreciates all the prayers for her, as they've helped her mentally, physically and spiritually! She just wants to continue to test negative on COVID-19 before she can go home and get the rest she so needs!"
Evans took on the role of DAYS' Adrienne in 1986 and was shockingly let go in a death storyline last November, bringing her 33-year run on the series to an end. Fortunately, the actress' long-time costar Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis) took to social media at the end of January to reveal that it wasn't the last that fans had seen of the actress.
"Rest assured, Judi Evans is coming back," Kurth tweeted -- though he didn't spill the beans on if she'll be back as Adrienne; her other Salem alter ego, Bonnie Lockhart; or someone else entirely.
In addition to DAYS, some of Evans' other soap opera credits include As the World Turns' Maeve Stone, Another World's Paulina Carlino, and Guiding Light's Beth Raines -- the latter role being the one for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.
UPDATE (June 15, 2020): Evans' DAYS costar Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis) took to social media to let fans know that the actress has been released from the hospital and is in good spirits as she continues her recovery at home.
"Happy to say Judi IS home and recuperating," Kurth shared on Friday, June 13. "Thanks for all your positivity and love sent her way."
