Beloved Days of our Lives actor Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez) set fans in a bit of panic after he appeared on a podcast and discussed his future at the NBC soap opera. From the sound of it, he and his Salem alter ego might not have much time left in Salem.
Gering was a guest on a late January episode of The Cliff Dorfman Show, where he was asked about what is going on behind the scenes at DAYS. His answer isn't exactly reassuring.
"The fact of the matter is, I might as well say it, I don't know how long I'm going to be on the show . . . what the next chapter holds," he reveals. "[I don't know] if I'm staying, if I'm going. I know I'm definitely going for a bit."
Later on in the interview, Gering explains that the powers that be at DAYS "always bring on new people, keep people, etc." and that he'll "going back for a bit" before he goes to "spread the wings." When the host asks if he means he'll be going back to wrap up his time on the show, Gering says, "Uh, uh, yeah," but that he still has "a couple of weeks of shows to do."
What Gering reveals about his status at DAYS is shocking, but the way in which he reveals it -- hesitantly -- leaves plenty of room for interpretation. Perhaps he really is exiting the show, or perhaps he'll be involved in a big storyline twist and this is a red herring to keep fans from guessing what happens. There has been no official comment from Gering or DAYS, so it's anybody's guess at this point in time.

Galen Gering took on the role of DAYS' Rafe in 2008 and has been playing him steadily since that time. Most of his early storylines were heavily tied to Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), who left the show in 2015 but has recently been back filming scenes scheduled to air later this summer. Could Sami's return be to help whisk Rafe off the canvas? Let us know what you think in the Comments section below.
Cliff Dorfman is a screenwriter, film director, and actor best known for his work on HBO's Entourage and the 2011 feature film Warrior. Dorfman's entertainment industry career began in the 1990s with recurring roles on 7th Heaven and Beverly Hills 90210.
