Days of our Lives is heading into its 50th anniversary, and with it will come some pretty exciting turns of events. At least, that's what Robert Scott Wilson (Ben Weston) revealed when Soap Central caught up with the actor on the red carpet during this year's Daytime Emmy kickoff event. Just what changes are in store for his hotheaded alter ego? Read on to find out.
soapcentral.com: There's a whole new Hollywood feel the Emmys have this year. What do you think about the atmosphere and the new direction?
Robert Scott Wilson: I think it's great. I'm a fan of change, so I like it. I've never actually been inside [the Hollywood Museum], so it's a trip just being in this room. But it's nice being here with everybody else and cheering the team on. That's the whole point of this, supporting our show in the 50th year, ringing in the 50th year. I'm just honored to be a part of it.
soapcentral.com: Speaking of DAYS' anniversary, they'll be bringing back a lot of fan favorites from over the years. Is there anyone you're excited to meet or work with?
Wilson: It would be great for Ben to work with somebody they brought back. Not to let too much out of the bag, but they are bringing back a lot of people from before, obviously, and I'd like to see our storylines [intertwine]. It would be fun to do. There's a lot of buzz around Bo [Peter Reckell], so I've gotta match up with Bo!
soapcentral.com: You've already lost your on-screen sister [Chrishell Stause, Jordan], and who knows how long your onscreen dad [James Reed, Clyde] will stick around, considering he's so sinister. Does losing on-screen family members worry you?
Wilson: You know, whatever the writers decide, they decide. It's nothing against the actor. I mean, what does James Reed need to prove, you know? He's so established, and he's such an experienced, good actor. I hope we're both on for a lot more time. But at the end of the day, we have to do whatever is right for the story. So I support whatever is right for the story.
soapcentral.com: Ben has been battling with Billy Flynn's Chad and dealing with his father. Are there any twists and turns coming up that wouldn't necessarily be expected?
Wilson: Oh, my God, at the very least, you're going to learn more about Ben in the next six months and what this all means to him. It's blowing my mind, and I'm working on it now. I am so excited for the fans to see it. It's a whole other side of Ben, and I'm really excited to kind of unravel it.
soapcentral.com: I'm so glad the writers are coming up with something for you. If an actor is going to be around, then it makes sense that the writers provide you with exciting story.
Wilson: I know. I mean, I was getting bored out of my mind. So thank God. It's time for the cycle to change. Ben's story got brought up to the forefront, and what happens in the upcoming months, I'm just so proud of and just really honored to be a part of. They did a really good job with the writing for him.
soapcentral.com: Will Ben still have that wild streak?
Wilson: He's got more of a wild streak than ever. More than ever, which makes my days a lot more fun to play. I can't complain.
