This year's Outstanding Lead Actress Daytime Emmy winner, Heather Tom (Katie Logan, The Bold and the Beautiful), made a guest appearance on a recent episode of The Talk and opened up about the CBS soap opera being back in production. The actress is one of many of the show's stars to get back to work in recent weeks and explained what it's like on set with the COVID-19 safety guidelines in place.
"I wasn't nervous [to go back]. I felt like they had us very well taken care of," she reveals. "I knew it was going to be a bit of a learning curve, just because there are many protocols that we are following. Brad [Bell, our executive producer and head writer] and the entire production staff had to pay very close attention to state regulations, and county regulations and city regulations... But I emailed Brad after my first day and I said, 'This was remarkably smooth.' We did things at a quick pace -- not quite the same pace that we're normally used to! [laughs] -- but we moved through things prety effing well, and so... I think that we are going to set a good example for other shows."
She continues, "We have zones. We have a COVID coordinator on the set who, if we have any kind of questions or concerns, we go to him and he's able to coordinate that for us... We were prepared -- as much as we could be -- to get back up and running, and I feel pretty good about it. Everyone wants it to work, and I think that's very important. The entire cast, the entire crew, wants this to work, wants to go back to work, so we're all in this together."
As Soap Central previously reported, B&B will back with all-new episodes this Monday, July 20 -- so of course the actress also gives a little hint about what's coming up for Katie, who, when the soap went off the air in April, was dealing with the shocking blow that Bill (Don Diamont) had once again cheated on her with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang).

"It's such a gift to have conflict on daytime, so that's what you want. But poor Katie is just like, always kind of waiting in the wings," Tom laments. "I feel like Katie will always forgive her sister -- she understands that Brooke is who she is and she couldn't possibly cut her sister out of her life. I think that she's, you know, kind of weighing Bill and figuring out, 'Okay, clearly this is part of his character, and what am I willing to put up with?' I really appreciate that they've told a mature story, and recognize that there's history there."
