Oscar winner Melissa Leo, known to daytime fans as All My Children's Linda Warner, is the latest soap opera alum revealed to have signed on to the upcoming Netflix show Dolly Parton's Heartstrings.
Variety reports that the New York native will be starring in an episode titled Two Doors Down in the anthology series that features a brand-new cast for each installment. This particular episode will show a family's "lifetime of secrets" come bursting out during a chaotic but comedic New Year's Eve wedding weekend.
As Soap Central previously reported, each of the eight one-hour episodes of Heartstrings is based on a different Dolly Parton song and will feature new and classic music from Parton in the form of love stories, inspirational tales, Westerns, and revenge comedies. The series follows a template set by the pair of TV movies NBC made with the country singer based on her song "Coat of Many Colors," [which starred The Young and the Restless' Alyvia Alan Lind (Faith Newman) as young Dolly]."
Y&R alum Jessica Collins will be starring in an episode titled Cracker Jack, which is a dual story through two time periods about "the power of unconditional love." The past storyline focuses on a girl and her dog, while in the present, that same girl, now a woman, question what her life means and who she can truly count on when she is faced with her greatest fear.
Meanwhile, Scott Reeves (ex-Steven Webber, General Hospital; ex-Ryan McNeil, Y&R) is set to star in the first episode of the Dolly Parton series, which is titled Jolene.
Melissa Leo is perhaps best known for winning the 2010 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Fighter. However, she first rose to fame for her 1984 to 1988 role as AMC's Linda, for which she earned a Daytime Emmy Award nomination.
All eight episodes of Dolly Parton's Heartstrings are expected to debut at once, in keeping with the Netflix model. Look for the series premiere later this year.
